This online course focuses on St. John Paul II’s pre-papal writings, which are rich in dialogue with the great philosophical minds of the past. As John Paul was himself a professor of philosophy, this course presents a tour of the history of philosophy from ancient Greece to the present with an eye toward empowering students to fruitfully understand and engage his philosophical writings. With an emphasis on his personalist anthropology, we will examine in-depth one such philosophical text of Karol Wojtyla and proceed to show how his philosophy informs Theology of the Body and the Papal Encyclicals and Letters he penned as Pope.

Registrants for this online Philosophy of John Paul II course will receive access to a filmed version of our 5-day, in-person course and a digital course workbook from September 11 - 22, 2023
Course Set Up

The videos are from a previously recorded in-person Philosophy of John Paul II. You can watch them on your own schedule, but we suggest committing 3 hours per day in order to get through all of the material. You will not have access to the videos beyond the end date of the course.
Resources and Direction

Each video session is complete with the resources used in the course, as well as directions for helping to make this online course, not only intellectually stimulating, but also spiritually fruitful.
Live Group Q&A Sessions

There will be live group Q&A sessions provided during that two-week period for all students who wish to participate. Details about dates and times of the sessions will be provided in an email you will receive after registering. Dr. Peter Colosi will host the live sessions. These group sessions will be recorded for those students who cannot make the designated times and will be accessible through the online course portal.
Steps to Certification Program

Full participation in this course counts towards Certification and the Master’s Degree Programs. Students who wish to attend another course with TOBI or enter into the TOBI Certification Program, must watch all of the videos and complete a multiple choice exam at the end of the course. A passing grade of 80% is required for the exam.

Meet Your Instructor

Peter J. Colosi, PhD

Peter J. Colosi is associate professor of philosophy at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. He earned his BS in mathematics from Franciscan University, an MA in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure University, and his MPhil and PhD from The International Academy of Philosophy in the Principality of Liechtenstein. He publishes in areas including medical ethics, Catholic social and moral teaching, philosophical personalism and Franciscan studies. He is co-founder of and lecturer at the Theology of the Body International Symposia, and the Catholic Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp of the Catholic Medical Association.
